Colombia, Caro Chiroso
Santiago’s Chiroso has a floral complexity, with hints of Chinese White Tea, sweet mandarin, and milk chocolate.
We have had numerous opportunities to taste the Chiroso variety in recent years, and Santiago’s Chiroso stands out for its aromatic and delicious flavor profile. We value our partnership and working relationship with Unblended in Colombia, so when they introduced us to Santiago’s Chiroso, we were eager to try it. This particular Chiroso is distinguished by its sweetness, citric complexity, and floral aromatics. It is commendable that a young coffee producer like Santiago is motivated to promote his own brand and continue working towards a future where coffee farming thrives, and we are proud to support him.
Chiroso is grown in Urrao where Santiago lives. “Chiroso” is rural Colombian slang for a long, elongated object. It was thought to be a mutation of Caturra, but genetic testing shows it is more closely related to Ethiopian Landraces. Its origin in Colombia is unknown, but its flavor reflects its roots.
